Oh hey there, welcome!

For years I have gone through several identities to finally come to this point where I am just going to embrace every single part of my past experiences.  I started off as an Art, Entertainment and Media Management major (music business) while involved in a highly acclaimed, professional hip hop dance company.  After taking a financial break from school I ended up having my daughter.  I left dance, I left school, I left my job.  Fast forward to being a single mother, finishing up my bachelors and changing majors.

Changing my major was a challenge cause I couldn’t figure out what else I wanted to do other than entertainment after spending half my life fully immersed in it.  I settled into Fashion Marketing and Management with 20 years of retail fashion experience and seeing how I could still adapt this into the world I loved.  Even then, I never figured it would leave me here writing this “welcome” page and unearthing a new concept that marries a lot of things that have been nothing but impactful to my life.

So here we are, Art & Sol is my new baby highlighting the goings on of Chicago in the realm of art, entertainment, fashion, and the present Latinx culture within the city.

I was born here in the US by immigrant parents. Like other Latinx millennials, we spent quite a journey finding a place within the fabric of American culture while maintaining the legacies of our heritage.  It’s no secret that there are many of us who still feel isolated from the majority even though our latinidad is the largest ethnic and racial minority in all of the nation (census.gov) and continues to be fruitful among the diaspora. There is a lot to learn, especially when there are so MANY of our gente out there that are progressing in mediums that challenge the stigma of who we’ve been presented as in media.  Representation matters, and I am going to do my absolute best to highlight our people making moves and kicking ass.
