MSI After Hours: Get Animated

The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI) is hosting an animation-themed party on Friday, September 21. MSI After Hours: Get Animated celebrates the intersection of art and science, giving guests access to MSI’s latest exhibit, The Science Behind Pixar. Guests can also attend an exclusive conversation with the creators of the newest Pixar short, “Bao.” Director Domee Shi, the first woman to direct a Pixar short, and producer Becky Neiman-Cobb will discuss their inspirations behind “Bao” during a special presentation.

The Science Behind Pixar features more than 40 interactive elements demonstrating the technology that supports the creativity and artistry of Pixar’s storytellers. Inside the exhibit the Pixar pipeline is unveiled, giving guests a behind-the-scenes look at how some of the most beloved movies were made.
Guests also have the opportunity to take their photo with human-size recreations of many of their favorite Pixar film characters including Buzz Lightyear, Dory, Mike and Sulley, Edna Mode, and WALL•E.

MSI After Hours: Get Animated is an adults-only event. Guests can enjoy cocktails, beer, snacks and more than a dozen MSI exhibits throughout the evening. They also have the chance to become an animator themselves by designing a flipbook, animating a gif, and discovering the technology behind one of the oldest animation tools: a zoetrope.

COST: MSI After Hours: Get Animated is a 21+ event. Tickets are available online
only, and will not be available at the door. Admission costs $40 and includes free
on-site parking in our convenient underground garage, snacks, a complimentary
cocktail, access to The Science Behind Pixar and more than a dozen additional
exhibits. The conversation with Domee Shi and Becky Neiman-Cobb require a
timed-entry ticket at no additional cost.
